A group of young Korean artists will fly to London and New York to present the artistic world of Korea on the wings of the ¡°Korean Eye¡± project.

The project was established by David Ciclitira and his wife Serenella in 2009 and aims to introduce modern Korean art to the international community. David is the chairman of Parallel Media Group, known for hosting the Ballantine's Championship in Korea. He first visited Korea in 2008 for the golf tournament and became interested in Korean contemporary art.

In partnership with Saatchi Gallery in London, the project has drawn more than 500,000 visitors in the past two years, travelling from Seoul to London and Singapore.

¡°The exciting part of this project is bringing Korea to the world,¡± he said during a press conference at a hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, Monday. ¡°In November 2011 we will take 'Korean Eye' to New York. This is a very exciting adventure for us. In 2012, we will move 'Korean Eye' to London. For me, as a Londoner, introducing Korean art to the international community is a fantastic privilege.¡±
He also revealed that an Android application for ¡°Korean Eye¡± will be released soon, expanding the project to the digital world.

The venture has been supported by Standard Chartered First Bank Korea (SC First) since its beginning in 2009. SC First CEO Richard Hill said, "We aim to project the profile of Korea to the international stage in a positive way. We are delighted to continue the relationship with 'Korean Eye' and Saatchi Gallery."

In October, an artist participating in the "Korean Eye" project will reveal a new work with some 2,000 worn footballs collected through an SC First campaign, he added.

Nigel Hurst, director and CEO of Saatchi Gallery, also visited Korea to attend the preview. "I am thrilled and delighted to collaborate with the 'Korean Eye' and Standard Chartered Korea," Hurst said.

"The role of Saatchi Gallery is introducing Korean contemporary art to a wide audience and making it accessible," he said. "It is a wonderful opportunity to introduce new contemporary art to London, especially during the Olympics."

"Korean Eye" is set to play a key role in providing a gateway for Korean culture to a wider world, he added.

Following "Moon Generation" in 2009 and "Fantastic Ordinary," this year's "Korean Eye" is themed "Energy and Matter." The exhibition will feature a variety of works from 21 artists, exploring the essence of Korean contemporary culture such as virtual reality, fantasy in everyday life, the effect of popular culture and the impersonality of a post-industrial society.

Hurst said the Saatchi Gallery chooses works that would be most interesting to an international audience.

Hong Young-in, who draws on scenic fabric with embroidery and acrylics, interprets old statues in an artificial, mischievous way, while Kang Hyung-koo magnifies portraits with subtle details such as wrinkles. Park Seung-mo binds ordinary objects such as a bicycle and violin with aluminum wire to solidify illusions. Debbie Han combines a bust of Venus, a symbol of beauty, with sport.

The exhibition is on preview through Friday at the lobby of the National Assemblymen's Building in Yeouido and exhibited at the SC First Bank building in Chungmuro in mid-October, before traveling to the Museum of Art and Design in New York from Nov. 1 to Feb. 19, 2012. Then the show will make its way to Saatchi Gallery, London, from July 14 to Sept. 9, 2012, in time for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
