Upon entering the gallery, visitors will see “Just,” a unique runway created by Gwon O-sang. Gwon’s white runway composed of small steps, a balance beam and monkey bars becomes complete when three models walk on it, wearing riding suits by designer Han Sang-hyuk of MVIO.

Vogue Korea invited 15 top designers and 15 artists, pairing them up in duos to create fashion-inspired artwork at the “Fashion into Art” exhibition held at Plateau, the former Rodin Gallery, in downtown Seoul, from Tuesday.

“Fashion into Art” started in 2009 as Vogue Korea’s photo spread and the collaboration was extended to an exhibition this year.

The harmony of creators from different fields has added to the artwork. Some of the works have visible links between the designer and the artist, while others have hidden clues.

Artist Kim Ji-min’s sculpture “One Way” has costumes by young designers Steve J & Yoni P. The languid mannequins with convex lens for faces lining up on a balance beam symbolize the desire of modern man. Steve and Yoni dressed them up with different length skirts and created “The Fixed Way You Think.”

Designer Jin Te-ok created a sculpture on top of artist Ji Yong-ho’s tree-like sculpture made of tire waste named “Untitled.”

Famed designer Gee Chun-hee chose to work with artist Noh Sang-kyoon. Noh is known for expressing the permanence of the universe and popularity of human beings by putting sequins on canvas. Inspired by Noh’s “Double Ends” and “Constellation 11 (Capricorn),” Gee has covered a mannequin with a long sequined dress connected to another mannequin.

Bae Joon-sung’s “The Costume of Painter — Museum R, legs right 2” uses the lenticular technique to dress and undress women in masterpieces, while designer Jung Ku-ho’s “Recall KUHO Project” combined poor-selling garments to two revolving skirts.

Media artist Lee Lee-nam worked with designer Sul Yun-hyoung and created “Seamless Stupa.” In two digitized images, a lady in Sin Yun-bok’s “Portrait of a Beauty” and a princess in Diego Velazquez’s “Infanta Margarita Teresa in a Blue Dress” change clothes.

Lee Yong-baek, who presents at this year’s Venice Biennale Korean Pavilion, projects his video “Angel Soldier” where soldiers are disguised in flowers. Designer Haneza brings the abandoned bride of the soldier, by floating a burnt wedding dress in a small pond reflecting “Angel Soldier.”

Lee Sang-bong and Park Seung-mo together created a silver dress made with aluminum wire, while Rubina knitted with pencils inspired by Hong Kyoung-taek’s colorful “Pen 2.”

“’Fashion into Art’ is going to be one of the largest fashion exhibitions in Korea with an artistic touch, just as the Vogue USA and the Metropolitan hold fashion exhibitions every year,” said Vogue Korea editor-in-chief Lee Myung-hee.

The exhibition runs through Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with an entrance fee of 3,000 won for adults and 2,000 won for children. Closed on Mondays. Visit www.vogue.co.kr or call (02) 510-4360 for more information.
